A Narrative Inquiry of The Art Therapy Experience of a Female Adult who Show Psychological Trauma from Childhood Abuse Experience

Abstract
The study is to investingate what an adult female who experienced abuse in childhood experienced during the art therapy process and what the meaning of that experience was through a narrative inquiry method. The study participant was a 29-year-old woman who showed psychological trauma such as anger, withdrawal, anxiety, and depression due to the experience of abuse. For this study, from September 2019 to July 2020, 30 sessions of individual art therapy were performed once a week, 60 minutes each, for 10 months in an unstructured art therapy method. For the research, after obtaining the consent of the participants, recordings of each session, observation diaries, works of art, and journals of researchers and participants were collected. Based on the collected artifacts, it was analyzed in a narrative method, and as a result, the participants' experiences were ¡®live only by hiding their emotions¡¯, ¡®everything is unfair¡¯, ¡®meet a frozen heart¡¯, ¡®the world changes when we meet the heart¡¯, was derived into four themes. As a result, the meaning of experience created three meanings: ¡®Expression of repressed emotions melts the frozen heart¡¯, ¡®Art therapy allows you to experience safe arms¡¯, and ¡®discovery of hidden energy¡¯. In this study, a woman with psychological trauma had a new perspective on life as she met herself and healed her wounded inner self while experiencing immersion through art therapy. In addition, through the experience of unconditional acceptance, she was leading changes in life by restoring trust with others and restoring interpersonal relationships.
